The Marriage of Convenience for the Lemon Meltaway and the Macaroon
A lesson in economics
Lemons, Rum, Coconut, Sugar, Flour, Eggs and lots of Love
This past weekend was Go Time in my kitchen. It is the only day in December that I had open enough to make ALL of the Christmas cookies. Our family, our extended family that I’m mailing out today, the neighbors and the cookie exchange at school for the teachers. By the end of the day my legs ached, my back had a knot in it and I had fallen short of two types of cookies. I figured I put in a valiant effort and if the kids really want those cookies . . . now we have an activity!
Planning is the Key
I plan a lot. I organize. Part of it is my personality and part of it is my mindfulness practice. I find that I get more done with less stress when things are slow, steady and I’m present in the moment.
I grew up on a farm and planning is everything. So is being frugal. Waste Not, Want Not mentality was drilled into us as small children when things were scarce. My earliest cooking experience was communal cooking with the Polish women in our community. They wasted nothing — even the egg shells went back into the scraps for the chickens.
