Today I’m working on organizing a few books about reading, and I found an excellent website I wanted to share!
Teaching reading is my JAM!
Let me start by saying, “I’m dyslexic.” I’ve never been good in school unless it was an art class or home economics. I’m very good with my hands — a Tinker Bell of sorts. Until 2019 when I went back to school in a didactic 2-year long Mindfulness and Meditation program — I had only read a few adult books in several years. Of course, I read hundreds of board books a day to my kids! I’m not counting those. Being dyslexic has made reading a lifelong challenge.
In the course of my motherhood, I was given the opportunity to homeschool my kids for several years. I taught them letters with bath crayons and foam letters — but teaching them to read was not something I thought I could do.
I was wrong! I just needed to believe in myself.
I sought advice from other homeschool parents that were further along on the learning path, and they suggested a book, “Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons”. One kid didn’t even finish the book before they took off reading Harry Potter. Then next kid…
