February’s moon thoughts and rituals

Snow Moon. Just visualize that for a moment. A full moon lights up snow-covered trees, lawns, lakes, and mountains if you are lucky enough to live by them. The original weighted blanket.

The snow.

The cold.

It asks us to slow down, bundle up, and create a safe, quiet space for reflection. Many of us are afraid of the quiet. Afraid of the solitude. Afraid of what our minds say to us. Let's start with just a moment and expand from that space. Over time, maybe even by the time I write about the December 2023 Cold Moon you will have developed a practice of quieting the mind and entering a mindful state.

My meditation this month is often just sitting quietly and noticing the bird calls, watching the snowfall while trying to follow one specific snowflake until it hits the ground.

Mind you, I work full-time, I love cooking in general as well as having a cooking challenge going — at the moment, it is a crusty bread that is holey and chewy on the inside, I spend many hours a week in the kitchen, there are so many college basketball teams playing on Saturday, my grad school homework is always due on the weekends— I have a lot of distractions.
