An Unusual Stocking Stuffer
On Christmas Eve 2021, I filled my kid's stockings with plastic-free hygiene items. It's what happens when your mom is a simple living, has hippie tendencies, is frugal, and strives towards sustainability. One of the items in the stocking was natural deodorant in a plastic-free package. As a parent, I feel it is my job to take the opportunity to introduce my kids to healthy options and support their wellness in a variety of ways.
Why Bother?
A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, an autoimmune disorder that affects my endocrine system. It is not fixable, but I can do certain things to lessen the flare-ups. After much research, I decided to start with my bathroom products because they are the most likely to cause issues. There is a longish list of items that I do my best to avoid, and it is made easy by an app on my phone called Healthy Living. This app makes healthy living more accessible by allowing me to scan a barcode and get all the necessary information to make the best decision.
Only one of my kids wanted to try the 100% plastic-free natural deodorant. (I should mention that she was, at the time, president of the environmental club.) That left me with three deodorants over the…
