What does Independence mean to you?

As I put the finishing touches on my Fourth of July festivities I sat quietly thinking about what Independence means?

We gather as a group and declare out independence — is that an oxymoron?

I think of independent as not needing anyone, alone, bootstraps and all.

I think of independence as freedom.

Then, I meditated on this as I watered my tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and breathtaking flowers in shades of purple and red, the morning sun already 80 degrees, the cold water hitting my feet was welcome.

Can we be independent as a group as well as individually? Yes, of course, we can.

The trick perhaps is finding a group. Or creating your own.

The Lesson

Thinking in a curious, creative, compassionate way doesn’t always come easy. (For me.) I like to take my time and see how I really feel about a word, topic, moment . . . to understand myself. To understand what I think and feel.
