I am so inspired by you.

When I went searching for a reason why my parents were the way they were I found a video — some famous bible thumping guy but I don’t remember his name. The gist I will never forget:

It’s not about you.

It’s not about your parents.

It’s about God’s plan for your life. He picked the people to be our parents for a reason that we may never know. Because . . . it’s not about us.

In that moment I had the freedom to move into my own sense of self. My own sense of mothering. I could be me and I could be the mother I always wanted or I could be the mother I wanted to be!

I chose to put the past behind me and stop searching for a reason and rejoice in the fact that I could be the mom I wanted. My kids are much better off with me being me vs me trying to undo all the shit my mom did.
