A Real Charlotte’s Web

Lesson 101

Each morning I take a walking meditation with Jake (the puppy), so it’s not always meditative.

Each step on the back deck brings me into this one moment, this one breath. During this time I gaze at the plants and notice what needs to be watered, what needs to be trimmed, which plant just needs some kind words or to be reminded she is beautiful. This particular morning I saw something floating and spinning in midair, I thought what the heck is that? I looked more closely and saw a spider spinning a web and evidently from the photo they spin from the outside in which I didn’t know so as I walk back-and-forth slowly being aware and attentive, I noticed as he continued to work. I wondered if he was meditating? Do spiders have a web spinning meditation like I have my walking meditation? Probably not.

The lesson and the challenge are the same, focus your attention on your steps, inhale in the rise — exhale on lowering. See how many steps you can take before your awareness shifts? Then begin again …

It’s in the beginning again, and again, and again — over and over — this is the practice.

I’m here each day with a new lesson to share with you. I invite you to follow along.
